Senior School Entry Guide 2025 - PDF Version
Places for entry into Year 12 will be offered on the basis of a satisfactory report from the pupil’s present school and a series of short interviews with the Headmaster or one of the Deputy Heads, the Head of Sixth Form or a Senior Sixth Form Tutor, and two subject interviews with Heads of Departments.
Pupils looking to join the Sixth Form must reach a minimum target for entry, consisting of:
The main interview day for external candidates takes place in November each year. Candidates must be registered with the School to be considered for interview. The School will generally send out offers to successful candidates in early December.
King Edward’s pupils are not required to complete a Sixth Form Application Form or attend for interview but must still meet the same examination entry requirements.
A further and smaller allocation of Year 12 places may be offered on a similar basis at a later date, if places are still available.
We will do our best to accommodate all choices but cannot guarantee that all subject combinations will be possible, or that the subjects offered above will run. A subject will only run if there are sufficient takers to make it viable within the curriculum and given staffing constraints. Once the final choices scheme has been drawn up, it may not be possible to amend subject choices.

Normal school hours run from 8.40am (registration) to 4pm (end of period five), Monday to Friday.
Pupils staying at school beyond 4pm should either be involved in a supervised after-school activity or should go to the school library, which is supervised until 6pm.
School matches normally take place on Saturdays, but there are also occasionally mid-week fixtures after school. Sports practices and Music or Drama rehearsals also regularly take place after 4pm.
