Sports General News

It has been a very busy and successful sporting term, with results, progress, participation and growing engagement and achievement in some of the ‘minor’ sports all providing commendable headlines.  The 1st XV have played some scintillating rugby on what is a deliberately challenging circuit, winning 8 out of 11 matches, including all those against local rivals, whilst our ‘junior’ A teams (U12-U15) have won or drawn almost three-quarters of their fixtures.  The U12As have had an unbeaten season, and outstanding progress has also been shown by the U13As, who have won all but one (very close!) of their fixtures, including significantly reversing some results from last year to inflict defeats on several previously unbeaten sides.

A young and developing 1st XI hockey team have performed well this term without always gaining the results that their play has deserved. The A teams for the U12, U13, U14 and U15 groups have won or drawn over two-thirds of their block fixtures, and the U13s, U14s and U16s all progressed as county champions or runners-up in their ‘tier’ competition, with the U14s just missing out, via the dreaded penalty shoot-out, on qualifying for the national finals.  Well done, too to the U18s, who were county indoor champions.

Our U14 and U16 netballers made it through to their respective County tournaments, whilst the U19s are County Champions for the fourth year in a row and the sixth time in the last 8 years!

It has also been a pleasure to see fantastic levels of participation (and success) in a number of our ‘minor’ sports this term, with regional and national qualification for many individuals and teams coming through in Swimming, Cross Country, Biathlon (in the National Biathlon Finals Alex Hearn won the U12 boys' competition and Charlotte Lang took 2nd place in the U12 girls' competition), Showjumping and Tae Kwondo, where Year 11 pupil, Josh Dreelan, won bronze and silver medals at the recent World Championships. Other individual sporting accolades go to Millie Pearce (U19) and Daisy Collett (U17), both selected for their respective Team Bath Netball Performance League squads, to Toby Mawer (Year 8), who has signed a two year contract with Reading FC Academy (he is a goalkeeper) and Max Ojomoh (Year 13), who earlier this term made his debut for Bath United (Bath Rugby’s 2nd XV) against Harlequins.
