It was wonderful to welcome former pupil, Summer Artman, to School last week to deliver a Netball masterclass to KES players, alongside a Q&A session involving multiple year groups.
Summer currently plays in the Superleague for Team Bath Netball. Her international experience includes the Vitality Roses (four caps as of January 2023); England U21 – World Youth Cup, England U17 – Netball Europe.
During her visit Summer reflected on her time at KES and how it laid a strong foundation for building her sporting and professional career. During a lunchtime Q&A session with Year 7-13 pupils, Summer touched on many relevant topics for young sportswomen, from menstrual health and nutrition, to training tips and mindset, sharing her journey of attending university and studying for a Masters degree in Cultural & Global Mental Health, to present day where she combines her professional netball career alongside working as a Sexual Violence advisor. Summer was an inspiration to everyone gathering for training or the Q&As alike. Despite achieving so much already in all aspects of her life, she is determined there is more to come, adding that her focus each day is to grow and improve.
Lou Gwilliam, Head of Netball, said: "It was such a special day welcoming Summer back to KES. It was great to hear her remember her time at KES so fondly. She was the perfect role model for our pupils. Summer was a key netballer in our KES netball history, so it was fantastic to see her return to impact the future of KES netball."
