Many congratulations to KES Director of Sport, David Hacker, following his appointment as Senior Men’s Assistant Coach at Hockey Wales.  The part-time role, which has been developed to accommodate his role here at KES, will see Mr Hacker come full circle, returning to a squad where he was previously captain of Wales.

Mr Hacker has already coached within the Welsh structure back in 2002 in preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. He joins a newly appointed team including Danny Newcombe as Wales Men’s Head Coach and Martin Schouten as a fellow Senior Men’s Assistant Coach and U21s Head Coach.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Hacker said, “Having the opportunity to support Danny Newcombe and use my experiences to help develop the talented crop of players that Wales has is something that is extremely exciting and motivating.

“The team have all the credentials to move to the next level both on the European and World stage.”

His new position not only gives him an insight and an attachment to the sport being played at the highest level, but it also gives Mr Hacker an opportunity to pass on his experiences to coaches and pupils at KES. His association with Wales will hopefully create greater working opportunities for the KES community, with opportunities for potential masterclasses with International players or coaching clinics for staff and pupils to name but two.

Career Highlights

  • 150 caps for Wales & GB
  • Played in 4 European Cups – 1987/1991/1995/1999
  • Commonwealth Games – 1998
  • Olympics – Sydney 2000, representing Team GB
