The annual Art and Photography exhibition took place earlier this week, as the KES community gathered to view a selection of work by KES artists, and listen to a talk on the life and works of David Hockney, delivered by guest speaker, Dr Chris Stephens, the Director of the Holburne Museum in Bath. The evening also saw the opening of the new Design Suite.

During the evening parents, pupils and friends of the School were able to view an exhibition of KES artwork on display within the Art and Photography department.  Among the work featured within the exhibition were artworks created with reference to techniques and styles of key  artists including Pablo Picasso, Patrick Heron, Walter Sickert, Banksy and Marc Chagall, among others.

Dr Chris Stephens, our guest speaker, has been Director of the Holburne Museum since July 2017.  Before that, he worked at the Tate  in London for twenty-one years, for much of that time as Head of Displays at Tate Britain and Lead Curator of Modern British Art.

His numerous exhibitions include some of the Tate's most successful shows, such as Picasso and British Art (2012) and David Hockney (2017).

Commenting on the evening's exhibition, Mr Pell, Head of Art & Photography at King Edward's said:  "As a department we passionately believe in the value and importance of pupils being exposed to and challenged by the work of appropriate artists and cultures.  We teach methods and techniques to help 'unlock' and decipher art works and encourage our pupils to put art in context.
