It was a busy weekend of debate for KES teams this weekend, with pupils entering two separate Debating Competitions.
On Saturday, KES sent four teams to Bristol to compete in the Cambridge Schools' Competition. This was a hotly-contested regional round with just three out of 28 teams making it to the national finals. One KES team, comprised of Year 12 pupils Penny Wright and Atlas Brookes, were successful and will compete at the Cambridge Union on 16 March. All four teams won at least one of their four rounds and special mention should go to Atlas, who finished 2nd out of 112 speakers, and Penny, who was joint 4th (on her competitive debut) in the individual rankings. Thanks to Miss Dawes for taking them.
The KES team comprised: Joel Dicker, Theodore Spaliviero-Shaw, Penny Wright, Atlas Brookes, Lucy Mac Donnell, Barnaby Frith, Ian Korzuch, Henry Tanner.
KES sent four teams to the ICYD regional round, held at the prestigious Oxford Union. Aimed at Year 10 and below, KES team members did very well, with Barnaby Frith and Daisy Fuller coming joint 3rd out of more than 80 speakers, suggesting the future is bright for debating at KES.
