With the Ten Tors Expedition on Dartmoor sadly cancelled this year due to Covid-19, KES Ten Tors Team Manager, Mr Laney, has come up with a fantastic local alternative for outdoor adventurers this May, The Ten Hills of Bath Challenge!
Taking place on Sunday 9 May, The Ten Hills of Bath Challenge is a single-day event, where KES pupils from Years 10-13 will attempt to visit as many as ten high points on the hills surrounding Bath as they can in a six-hour time period. Ten points will be awarded to teams for every designated high point visited, with teams also loosing ten points for every minute they are late returning!
To take part, teams of up to four people must be bubbled in their year group and stay together for the duration of the event. Each team will be monitored via the MapRunF app, which can be freely downloaded onto smartphones and will log which hills have been reached.
Route choices will be determined by each team but may pass through the City of Bath. On the day teams will need to carry waterproof clothing, a set of spare warm clothing and food for the duration of the event. They must also carry a small first aid kit, emergency blanket and at least one mobile phone (with the MapRUnF downloaded to it).
The timings for the event will be as follows:
Thursday 6 May, 4pm | Briefing for all those taking part, with instructions given out about the MapRunF app, the orienteering-style maps will be handed out so routes can be planned in advance |
Sunday 9 May | 9.00-10.00am start of the event from KES 15.00-16.00pm teams finish back at school |
To take part, teams need to register with Mr Laney via email to [email protected] with their team name and the names of the four team members. The deadline for replies is 4pm on Monday 26 April.
