A new creative collaboration between KES and Three Ways School in Bath has been established this term to help deliver a series of art-based workshops throughout the year to pupils aged 11-12yrs and 13-14yrs at Three Ways School.
The first workshop took place last week as KES Art teachers and eight Sixth Form students spent the day at Three Ways School, to work with, and support the children and staff there.
During the workshop the Three Ways pupils used a variety of mixed media and imagery to create artworks which focused on themselves and their interests and hobbies. Supported by staff from both schools, as well as KES Sixth Formers, pupils took inspiration from textile designer, Alice Kettle and influential artist, Joseph Cornell. In doing so, the Three Ways students created some fantastic pieces, using a wide variety of media. The proximity to Remembrance Day also saw all involved add to Three Ways School’s colourful display of poppies.
Commenting on the first workshop, Abigail Ottaway from Three Ways School, said: 'Three Ways Special School were delighted to host the first of a series of collaborative Art workshops with students and staff from King Edward's School. Two of our Secondary MLD & SLD classes worked alongside Sixth Form students from KES, creating 2D and 3D works based on the topic 'Myself'.
'It was wonderful to see Three Ways children interacting and sharing ideas with people from outside of the Three Ways community. Students and staff from KES delivered an engaging workshop ensuring that everyone had clear understanding of the project brief and were comfortable and able to access all creative tools to successfully complete their art piece.'
The joint workshops will take place each term this year culminating in a summer exhibition of the students’ artwork created during the sessions.
