“We want to have a look at the new labs!” gleefully chime three Year 9 pupils on the first break time back as they peer through the window of Q21. After relinquishing the lab space for three months, the excitement amongst staff and students alike is almost palpable. Although there was a certain charm about the hardwood benches and sunken sinks, much loved by old Edwardians on their annual pilgrimage to Q Block, the new, bright and modern facilities bequeathed to the next generation of KES physicists are in stark contrast to their dark and dated predecessors. Each lab has been designed with the pupil experience in mind, bringing them closer to the action with their landscape layout, HD Clevertouch screens and practical-friendly workspaces. Furthermore, the addition of our new lab space, Q24, has allowed the department to expand to match the growing popularity of both Physics and Electronics at A and AS Level respectively, providing a tailored learning space for our Sixth Form students. From the youngest Year 7 pupils taking their first steps into the separate sciences to our most advanced students preparing for Oxbridge entrance interviews, our new labs will provide a comfortable, inspiring and accessible learning environment for all.
