Competitions Senior School

Two new debating clubs have recently started at the Senior School and this weekend both clubs took part in external competitions to test out their debating skills.

Four senior teams competed in the Cambridge Union Schools Debating Competition's South West Regional round in Bristol on Saturday. This was their first-ever competition, and thus a valuable opportunity to learn from the experience. A special shout-out to 'KES Red' (Orson Savage and Lucy Mac Donnell), who placed 7/28 teams and narrowly missed out on a place in the national finals.

Lower down in the Senior School, four junior teams competed in the International Competition for Young Debaters in the illustrious setting of the Oxford Union. All eight speakers gained valuable experience against debaters who were in some cases three years older than them. Congratulations to Barnaby Frith and Hafsa Shazuli for placing 7/32 teams and being reserve Finalists. Barnaby Frith personally placed 2/128 speakers, which is an extraordinary achievement.
