English Department Launches New Journalism Competition

Do you want to comment or have your say on Brexit? Or review a recent much-loved travel destination.  Is a newly published book deserving of a wider readership and might a glowing review help?  And what does Eddie Jones’ Six Nations squad reveal about his intentions for this year’s Rugby World Cup?

If you are keen to put pen to paper, be it to inform, entertain, engage or inspire your readers, the KES Journalism Competition, launched earlier this week could signal the start of your journalistic career.

Organised by the English department, entries to the KES Journalism Competition will be judged by well-known journalist, Kate Maltby, who is a columnist for the FT, feature writer for The Spectator, Daily Telegraph and The Guardian – among others - as well as literary critic for The Times and Wall Street Journal.

The scope for entry articles is broad.  You can submit an opinion piece on politics, culture, science or current affairs. Or perhaps pen a lifestyle article on the rise of veganism.  Review a film or why not write a match report off the back of your football team’s last game.  A feature article provides scope to tackle the issues related to our current use of plastic, or else is there something going on closer to home here in Bath that you would like to report on?

Writers have until 3rd of April to enter the competition and articles should be no more than 1,500 words.  Please submit entries to the English department.  Good luck!
