Lucy Thomas awarded an Excellence Award by The Royal Geographical Society

Lucy Thomas, until recently a pupil at King Edward’s, has been awarded an Excellence Award by The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) in recognition of her having achieved among the highest marks nationally in the 2018 Geography A Level examinations.

The Society’s Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate the hard work and success of pupils who achieve the highest marks in the GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, Pre-U and International Baccalaureate geography examinations each year.  Lucy was one of eight pupils receiving an award for their A Level results.

Steve Brace, the Society’s Head of Education and Outdoor Learning, said:

“Today’s young people have a keen interest in many key geographical issues, including climate change, and studying geography helps them to better understand the world’s people, places and environments, and how they are changing.

“The Society is delighted to recognise the outstanding success of these students. Our Excellence Awards reflect their hard work, the support of their geography teachers, and the students’ curiosity about their world, which we hope they will carry with them into the future.”

In addition to her studies, Lucy was a talented actor here at KES, taking a lead role in Pop! The Musical, and playing Gretel in the school’s production of Hansel and Gretel at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  After sitting her A Levels Lucy returned to school in a gap year role as the Drama department intern.
