There is so much to look forward to across the whole School this week, as we celebrate storytelling and imagination, and the world of books and creative writing during Book Week.
Pre-Prep and Nursery’s Book Week has an environmental theme as the children find out about the destruction of habitats around the world and how animals are becoming endangered. Visiting authors include OE, James Sellick, who will talk about his picture book, ‘There’s a Rang-Tan in my Bedroom,’ about a mischievous orangutan and the impact of deforestation.
Pre-Prep will also welcome storyteller, Martin Maudsley, visit Mr B’s Bookshop and take part in a workshop with author, vet and wildlife enthusiast, Gill Lewis as they explore her new book, Willow Wildthing and the Swamp Monster. The children will also welcome the wonderful Tallulah Swirls and her puppet theatre to school, to watch and take part in workshop on Tallulah’s Mayan Creation Shadow Show.
Our Junior School’s ‘Wild Things’ Book Week theme echoes that of the Pre-Prep, welcoming authors Gill Lewis and Piers Torday, the latter author of The Last Wild series. Adding to the fun is their Wild Things dress up day on World Book Day itself, Book Swap Shop and Speak Out Festival on Friday.
Not to be outdone, the Senior School is set to welcome local authors Catherine Bruton (aka Mrs Bruton from our English department) to talk about her latest Carnegie Medal nominated ‘No Ballet Shoes in Syria’ and Fox Benwell, contributor to Proud, a stirring, bold anthology of stories by top LGBTQ+ + YA writers, and author of The Last Leaves Falling. Watch out too for the ‘KES Recommends’ reading list as teachers share their favourite subject related books.
