The Junior School was delighted to welcome David Medlock, from the Medlock Charitable Trust, to school today so that he could see the new astroturf in action during a Year 5 and 6 Games lesson.
This exciting, new 35m x 20m multi-purpose facility was made possible by a large donation from the Medlock Charitable Trust, a long-term supporter of King Edward’s School.
The new development - completed by contractor, Verde Recreo, just before pupils returned to School on the 8 March – is already a hub for outdoor activity at the Junior School, with the astroturf a favourite play area during breaktimes, lunch and after school activities, as well as during Games and PE lessons.
“The new astroturf is a fantastic new facility, enhancing both our sports programme and outdoor play space”, said Mr Taylor, Headteacher at the Junior School. “We are very grateful for the Medlock Charitable Trust’s support in enabling the facility to be completed during 2021. The children were extremely excited to see the astro, ready for use, upon their return to school and are really enjoying using this wonderful facility.”
The Junior School hopes to hold a formal opening event for the new astroturf later this year, when government guidelines allow a suitable outdoor event.
